Troggs hold on to 4th spot for now
The final days results saw Kennington beat Brews 4-1 twice in their double header, Bliby held champions market to a 2-2 draw and Bethersden dropped yet more points drawing 3-3 with relegated Aldington.
This leaves the Troggs still in 4th but Brews vs Bethersden is still an outstanding fixture although no one knows wether they will play it or not or what result will be given
Ashford Cavaliers have folded thier Sunday 1st Team after a woeful season bringing just 3 points. Here is a statement from their website
Club Statement – May 11th 2009
Ashford Cavaliers FC can now confirm that the current First team will be withdrawing from the Ashford & District Sunday Premier league at the close of the present season. The League Council were approached and consented to the plan put forward by the Club.
This decision was taken after several months were spent searching for a suitable individual to take over as First team manager, without any success. It was therefore agreed that the Club ‘down size’ until the Club is in a position to expand again. This is a course of action that, whilst not always popular, is something that we and other clubs have done before. It is sometimes necessary to take a sensible step back before moving forward again.
Ashford Cavaliers will be represented in season 09/10 in Division 3. All affected players will be contacted explaining how the changes affect them.
The Club would like to recognise the efforts shown by certain individuals during this very difficult season. There are a core of First team players (you know who you are) who have kept going – facing defeat after defeat – simply to fulfil our fixtures. The players signed on would have probably finished in the top half of the Premier had they been available each week. Sadly only a few were able to turn out. This effort shown cannot be ignored, for one simple reason – our Reserve squad, who have had a great season, would not have won Division 4 or got to the Division 4 cup final had the First team folded, or if Big Man had walked away! It really is that simple. A big effort behind the scenes involving Dale, Big Man and Skip tried to ensure the Reserves had a chance to complete their own season in their own league. Yet without the efforts of key First team members, it would not have been possible.
Season reviews etc will appear over the coming weeks to offer a more light hearted summery, but for now the Club would like to remind everyone involved next season of the efforts shown during this season

MARKET CLINCH TITLE
Market clinched the league title on sunday with a comfortble 3-0 win over aldington that brings the title back to the ashford side for 2nd season in a row. Elsewhere in the league Kennington Smashed Cavaliers 7-1 whilst Bethersden and Bliby exchanged points with Bliby winning 4-2 on the sunday and Bethersden winning 4-1 on the monday. Kennington failed to field a side against bromley green on Tuesday evening and so lose the points.
With the 1-0 win over Brews Troggs further cement their champions league spot and with a look at the max points table its now in troggs hands if they win their last two they will at least grab third (as kennington could only get 30 if we beat em). Second could well be achievable boys!! On Thursday night Bethersden were held to a 2-2 draw by bromley green and brewmasters cancelled their fixture with bliby, perhaps with sundays cup final in mind and so presumably will also lose the points with not enough time left to replay the game.
MAX POINTS:
MARKET MOVE CLEAR
market moved into pole position to clinch the premier title with a 2-0 win over Bethersden. watched by eager troggs scouts dyke and brown it took market till 60 mis to break the deadlock with a corner headed home by center back Ben Robbins. Bethersden never really looked that threatening going forward in what was truthfully a poor match but Market wouldn't have minded and clinched the game 2-0. Else where bromley green eased past cavaliers 1-0 and the suprise result came as Brewmasters slipped up at aldington who secured only their second win of the season with the 4-1 win at home.
The other game played was the ashford charity semi which took extra time to see bliby through 3-2 over Kennington.
Market now sit well clear on 34 points and can amass a possible 40 which would put them out of reach of the chasing pack. they only really need 1 win out of two to take the title
obviously not everyone can get max points but this is how many each team can get should they win all remaining games...
of course if we won our last 3 brews and bliby could only get 30 each so we'd definitely finish 4th or above. so thats the aim then.
